He commented on the fact that much of the produce for the menu is locally grown and sourced:

“The platters were attractively presented and the individual items were without exception excellent. The beef and the venison for the main course came from the Home Farm and were universally applauded, both very tender and very tasty.  The sea trout was equally good, a thick fillet fresh fromPoolethat morning, liberally encrusted with herbs and perfectly cooked.

The home-made desserts were first class, particularly the excellent home- churned ice cream. The generous selection of fine West Country cheeses was very well received. The service throughout was informal but efficient and the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. This is the third visit of the Wessex Branch and we will be sure to return. This Commendation is made with grateful thanks”.

The committee members then sat down to enjoy another exquisite lunch in The Stables Restaurant, a converted part of the original buildings, full of charm and character. Barbara can be contacted on 01258 830225.

Vegetable Garden

In the vegetable garden our Jerusalem artichokes have taken a real battering from the winds and rain over the last few days. Our leeks are being eaten by leek moth and the whole crop has been lost. Our tomatoes have failed to rippen so we think we will be making green tomato chutney.

  Great Dorset Steam Fair

 We were pleased to receive a comment on our blog from a visitor to the steam fair. The customer had heard our advert on Steam Fair FM, it is sometimes difficult to know where to advertise so it is good to get feedback.

Mothers day was another busy day here at The Langton Arms with all areas fully booked all day.

On Friday 27th May the Tarrant Valley Players will be here at The Langton Arms for a medley of entertaining from all of their best perfomances. Light refreshments during the interval. More information to follow soon.

On Sunday 29th May we are hosting a Dinner and Disco in aid of the Dorset MS Therapy Centre.

 The Tarrant Valley Skittles League presentation evening  took place last Wednesday 30th March. The league runs from January through to March every year with teams from all eight of the Tarrants taking part. This years winners were Tarrant Rawston, captained by Graham Rendell, did not lose a game! The league raised £523.00 for MacMillan Cancer Support Nurses.

Vegetable Garden

Work has started on this years vegetable crop with Banana Shallots and Jerusalem Artichokes already planted. On Friday lettuce, spinach, beetroot, carrots and parsnip will all be planted and celeriac, tomatoes, celery and leeks are all doing very well in Brian’s greenhouse.

Just like Michel Roux on BBC2′s  ’ Great British Food Revival ‘ we love decent bread too! All of our bread is made in house by our expert chefs – come and try it, you’ll certainly taste the difference.

The veg patch & community corner

Our vegetable patch is currently being prepared for sowing for 2011. This is our third year of growing our own veg, each year we are learning a little more about what suits the soil and the best times for planting each crop to supply the kitchen with the best seasonal produce.

Helen from Gunville has marked out a little spot to grow her own kitched garden so our community plot is growing.

We are just starting another full wedding season with lots of happy couples tying the knot or celebrating their weddings with us.
